Fleur Tookey - Collages

  • c/o Finn Studio Unit 5 Umborne Bridge Colyton, Devon United Kingdom (map)

Having graduated from Brighton College of Art in 1972 with a Fine Art degree, Fleur gave up painting and pursued a career in studio glass making. A post graduate year at Stourbridge college of Art lead her to join The Glasshouse, the UK’s pioneering glass studio in Covent Garden, London. She worked there for the next 25 years, producing her distinctive blown glass, now found in collections around the world.

Leaving the physically demanding environment of glass, Fleur eventually found a new voice and returned to her Fine Art origins of painting. Using layers of tissue and cartridge paper that she has previously coloured and textured , she achieves a certain translucency in her pictures reminiscent of much of her glass work.

Her starting point is always her material, but the finished article takes inspiration from things observed. Seascapes of her beloved Cornwall, the quirky stance of birds, the joyful movement of dancers or tennis players.
